"Perhaps the child is so intelligent that the child recognizes that what is being demanded is stupid. Is this a disorder?

Probably. That is, having the skills and the ability to use the skills to successfully cooperate with others is a basic human trait, normally present. An intelligent *and* functional child would understand how to satisfy the needs of those around him or her *as well* as to satisfy the needs of his or her own independence of action and thought.

From the point of view of society, it's important that people be able to communicate and cooperate effectively, and an inability to do so is disabling" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Abd

Random Update [30 Jan 2008|11:58am]
[ mood | geeky ]

Work is going pretty well. The big site I started on in October went live Dec. 20, and closed
Jan. 25. It had over 10,000 registrants and over 4,000 submitted applications. We got approval
to build an Accepted Student Portal for the next phase. Right now I'm working on a big Web
based contact management application for another client. I'm having
to work more closely with the technical lead, who is used to just doing everything himself.
Unfortunately, this means he will make random changes to my projects without telling me and
does not communicate well at the architecture/strategy level. He's a "Read the source code,
it's obvious what I meant to do" kind of person.

Tanning [28 Nov 2007|04:00pm]
What's the first context that comes to mind? :)
http://www.braintan.com/barktan/2tannins.htm

Tannins react with proteins, making them insoluble. This is why tanning hardens and preserves leather.
Rawhide probably has live bacteria in it. Leather has very dead bacteria.

Tannins react with iron (and other metals). They are actually chemically reacting not just sticking to the surface. If there is iron stain in your leather or fabric, adding tannins will darken it.

Therefore, if you take something that already has tannins, like Oak wood, and add metal to it you will get a dark stain. (soak steel wool in vinegar, wipe vinegar on wood, instant solid black!)

What happens if you paint solid iron objects with tannins? Should form a solid, waterproof black layer.
What happens if you paint oak with copper? Sickly green layer. (pressure treated looking in fact.)

Others? What have you played with?
